This Smartwatch For The Elderly Has A Bunch Of Safety Features
The Omate Wherecom S3 is a 3G GPS Android smartwatch designed specifically for the elderly — providing a simplified way to stay connected to family and caregivers.
It features a “one-click SOS button” which will push the GPS location of the wearer via Wi-Fi or 3G to selected contacts via an app.
The Wherecom S3 based on the same architecture as the Omate Wherecom K3, a smartwatch for six to nine years olds, and features a dialer, a message hub, an alarm reminder for medication and a pedometer.
Although there are other devices on the market that perform similar functions, Laurent Le Pen, CEO at Omate said that the smartwatch format has the advantage of not feeling unfamiliar to elderly users.
“A wristwatch is something many seniors have worn all their lives. We have a deep knowledge of the senior segment through our existing product portfolio which makes it the ideal distribution partner for the Omate S3,” Le Pen said.
The Omate S3 can last up to two days on a single charge and triangulates a location using GPS, 3G GSM mobile networks and Wi-Fi hotspots, for a more accurate positioning to allow family members to communicate and locate the wearer.
It is powered by a 3G Dual-core 1Ghz ARM Cortex-A7 MediaTek MT6572M, an ARM Mali-400 MP GPU, features a 1.54-inch 320×320 resolution colour display, and has intergchangable staps for customisation.
It will be available in Australia later in 2016, with pricing to be announced.
